Cockroaches are the pest we hear about most in Palm Beach. The warm, humid weather suits them, and after a summer storm they come up out of drains, garden beds and gutters looking for somewhere dry. Once they are inside, they hide in the warmest, darkest spots they can find: behind the fridge, under the dishwasher, inside cupboard hinges and in the motor of the stove.
There are two main types. Large brown cockroaches, often called American or Australian cockroaches, live outside and in roof voids and wander in at night. Small German cockroaches live and breed indoors, mostly in kitchens, and can build up numbers very quickly.
